Suzanne Kakouris

Bio:

Suzanne Kakouris has owned and operated SDC for 30 years and has always had a passion for dance and teaching children. She grew up dancing at The Gold School with her mentor the late great Sherry Gold where she assisted at the studio and was a Sherry Gold Dancer in her Company, performing throughout New England in many show’s, as well as touring with DMA, as one of Sherry’s dancers. 

Suzanne had numerous titles and many accomplishments with Competitions on the National level as a dancer, as well as studying At Boston Ballet.  She grew as a dancer because of Diane Kelley Luigi, Gus Giordano, Fred Knect, Linda Gache, Frank Hatchett and other greats. She was a member of DTCB and received RAD training and Certification.  Suzanne also attends numerous teacher’s conventions and workshops every year in her continued efforts to always grow.  Suzanne has received many choreography awards, as well as Judged and adjudicated throughout the country for dance competitions. She was the lead dancer and dance captain when she worked professionally for Busch Gardens in Williamsburg Virginia where she appeared in many commercials and industrial shows.

Suzanne pride’s herself on being a dance educator and teaching solid technique. Many of her students have gone on to dance professionally in Disney, Busch Gardens, Cruise Lines & Ballet Companies. Some of her students have also gone to prestigious Universities and Colleges to Major in Dance, Minor in Dance or be active in Dance in Collegiate Dance Teams, and dance with Dance Clubs. Several former students have gone on to become teachers and Choreographers.

Suzanne is known for her personal attention to each and every student’s needs, making them all feel Special & Loved. She is a proud mom of four boys and juggles a family and her SDC Family with complete joy, compassion and love. She truly feels blessed and feels luck to do what she loves for a living.


Donna Coco

Donna Coco - Teacher

Bio:

Donna is a native of the New England area. She originally began teaching at schools through out Massachusetts and New Hampshire before opening her own studio, Donna Coco's Performance Plus, in 1993. Over the nineteen years that she owned and directed her school, Donna was fortunate to have worked with many talented dancers who, as students, won numerous regional and national titles. Many of those dancers have gone on to dance in college on competitive dance teams, participate in local dance companies and also professional dance companies, Disney World and multiple cruise lines.

After closing her studio in 2013, she became the artistic coordinator for the competitive company at Dance Images Dance and Music Center, where her students have continued to thrive in the competitive as well as non-competitive environment. As a choreographer, Donna has won many awards from competitions such as American Dance Awards, New York City Dance Alliance, JUMP, NUVO, Onstage NY, Starlight Productions and Co. Dance both regionally and nationally. She was the founder and director of Eastern Dance Awards, a local dance competition from 1989-2002. She passed EDA to a former student and now peer and EDA continues to run each year in May. Donna graduated from Boston University in 1986 with a Bachelor of Science degree in physical therapy. She uses this anatomical and science based approach to tackle technical issues with body placement and alignment.


Roseann Ridings

Rosann Ridings - Teacher

Bio:

Roseann is a former Boston Ballet and Copley Square Ballet company member, and has performed across New England and beyond. She has been the director of the Cambridge Ballet Center and has taught at the Cambridge School of Ballet and Marie Paquette's Classical Ballet School. Her her teaching credits are vast as she is one of the most in-demand teachers in our area.

Roseann currently teaches throughout New England and sprinkles her lessons with funny, creative images, particularly when teaching younger dancers. For example, when her students’ frappés lack adequate attack, she has them think “karate” rather than “ballet.” “I say, ‘Your foot is a deadly weapon that you need to sharpen,’” she explains. “They laugh, but they get it: They strike the foot a bit stronger." From studio classes at lauded classical ballet programs to judging national dance competitions, Roseann's students hang on her every word.  Her classes are full of her warmth and her dancers are inspired by her obvious commitment to their growth. 


Linda Barry

Linda Barry - Teacher

Bio:

Linda has been a life long presence at SDC! She grew up dancing at SDC and enjoyed the opportunity to teach dance early on. During college she was a Patriot’s cheerleader and performed throughout the region. She has over 20 years experience coaching cross-country, cheer and track, currently in Salem, MA where she teaches middle school English. It was her experiences dancing and working with children of all ages, especially at the studio, that inspired her to continue her formal education and go on to become a school teacher.

Linda has been teaching dance for the past 15 years and loves every minute spent at SDC where she strives to empower dancers by encouraging them to find joy in the art and confidence in themselves.


Jairol Jbizz Bernabel

Jairol "Jbizz" Bernabel - Teacher

Bio:

J.Bizz is an in-demand choreographer, dancer, and musical artist. J.Bizz can be seen performing across the country. J.Bizz has trained and performed in numerous forms of dance. He specializes in hip hop, jazz funk, and pop/locking. He was best known from the group "I.T.M", performing in professional venues, such as the Celtics, Blue Man Group & Stomp. His dance career has lead him along side various artists, including Britney Spears. J.Bizz choreography is well known, and national award winning. His choreography can be seen across the country, as he is known, as a high demand choreographer. His pieces range from emotional and impactful, to dynamic and bold. J.Bizz's greatly also prides himself on the accomplishments of his students. They can be seen performing on Broadway, and doing commercial/television work.


Laura Flanagan

Laura Flanagan - Teacher

Bio:

Miss Laura attended Dean College where she studied Ballet, Modern, Jazz, Tap, Contemporary, Pedagogy, and Kinesiology.  She graduated a year early, earning her B.A. in Dance, with a concentration in Performance & Choreography.  Laura was awarded the “Trustee’s Prize for the Palladino School of Dance for the Bachelor’s Degree Program” upon graduation.  While at Dean, she performed with the Dean College Dance Company all 3 years. 

Laura’s performances during college also included the Patriot’s Home Opener Show in 2015, a showcase performance in Washington D.C. for the National American College Dance Association, and several shows in Boston and NYC while apprenticing with a professional company, Jessie Jeanne & Dancers.   Since graduating, she performed in “Call of Kairos” under the direction of Katherine Crockett - former principal dancer for the Martha Graham Company, Helena Froehlich - faculty at Boston Ballet School, and Kenny Raskin - former Cirque du Soleil artist.


Kaitlin Garofano

Bio:

Kaitlin has been teaching at SDC for 7 years. She received her Dance Teachers certificate through the "Dance Teachers Club of Boston". She grew up dancing at SDC since the age of 6. She is experienced in teaching all forms of dance including Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Lyrical and Theater for all ages. She gets so much enjoyment out of teaching and loves watching the students progress each year.


Barbara Mantere

Barbara Mantere - Teacher

Bio:

Barbara has been with the SDC family for twenty years. She spent most of her days dancing here as a student. Barbara received her Dance Teachers certificate through the "Dance Teachers Club of Boston" in 2002. She went on to graduate from Bridgewater State University with a B.S.Ed in early childhood and dance.

While at BSU she was a member of their dance company and selective dance ensemble. She even served as company president in her senior year. Before taking a break to start her family, Barbara taught all ages and levels at SDC. She loves spreading joy through dance and movement. When she's not teaching at the studio, she is teaching first grade for the town of North Reading.


Kaleigh Natale

Kaleigh Natale - Teacher

Bio:

Kaleigh Graduated from The Boston Conservatory with a B.F.A. in Contemporary Dance Performance in 2012. At The Boston Conservatory she was awarded a Merit Scholarship and worked with master and student choreographers. She performed "The Winged" by Jose Limon, "Mechanical Organ" by Alwin Nikolais and excerpts of "Three" by Ohad Naharin. She also performed original choreography by Gianni DiMarco, Danielle Agami, and Danny Pelzig. In 2012 Kaleigh joined The Portland Ballet Company. She became a full company member in 2013.

With Portland Ballet she has appeared in "La Bayadere: Kingdom of the Shades", "Boy Meets Girls", "Jack The Ripper", "The Victorian Nutcracker", "The Armed Man", as well as other original works. Kaleigh enjoys being able to share her love of the arts through teaching and watching her students grow.


Niki Thelisimond

Niki Thelismond - Teacher

Niki is a vastly experienced Hip Hop teacher who is known for her innovative choreography and compassion for each of her students. She has been teaching at SDC for 10 years. Niki has a ton of energy and brings that to each and every one of her classes. The students love her personality and teaching style. Niki also leads EnMotion Dance Company in Cambridge and provides dance classes for inner-city children in Boston and Cambridge. Niki studied performing arts at Suffolk University.  


Lynda Yennaco

Lynda Yennaco - Teacher

Bio:

Lynda has been an SDC teacher for almost a decade. She began ballet school at the age of 4 and continued dancing throughout high school and college. While jazz might be her favorite type of dance, she is an experienced teacher of ballet, tap, lyrical, and theater dance, for children of all ages. "Get the kids moving!" is her motto, encouraging students to think positively, work hard, while having some fun too! She is very dedicated to her students, giving them time and individual attention, even in a large class setting. "I love being a dance teacher, I am so lucky to have had such wonderful students throughout the years, and look forward to many more!"

Caroline Fitzgerald

Caroline Fitzgerald - Teacher

Bio:

Caroline grew up as an SDC trained dancer. While dancing for the company at SDC she was awarded numerous titles as well as scholarships on both regional and national levels. Caroline has also has the pleasure of touring the country with West Coast Dance Explosion’s Fuzion Dance Company in 2015/2016. While touring with West Coast Dance Explosion, she had the opportunity to assist their well-known staff during workshops, run the backstage portion of the competitions, and perform in their closing show.

Thus far in her dance career, Caroline has had the opportunity to work with many distinguished choreographers such as Channing Cooke, Craig Dionne, Rhonda Miller, Nick Lazzarini, Al Blackstone, Kenny Easter, Kim Wolf, Dee Caspary, Marissa Osato, Andy Pellick, Jessica Lang, Claudia MacPherson, Alberto del Saz, Nancy Lushington, and Michael Thomas. She earned her B.F.A. degree in Modern Dance Performance at Marymount Manhattan College and is proud to be continuing her education further in dance while she auditions for various shows and dance companies, which will allow her to share her knowledge with students while teaching.

Caroline is currently living in New York City, but makes her way back to Massachusetts often to teach at SDC. She is a passionate dancer and an equally passionate teacher, who firmly believes that dance education extends far beyond mere execution. While her primary studies included modern and ballet, Caroline enjoys teaching contemporary, jazz, lyrical, and hip hop.
